Tuesday, December 06, 2005SST: Generation Why... and congratulations to Chairman Andrew Lamar of Mary Washington, who was elected state chair of the College Republicans this weekend. Much to the dismay of some. I supported Andrew from my lowly position as Spotsylvania GOP Chairman, both through endorsement and monetarily. Here's why: (1) I know from whence the UMWCRs have come. Mr. Lamar has revitalized that group. (2) The CRs at Mary Washington are top notch, involved, energized, and simply an outstanding bunch. I can't say enough, and while we all know no one does it alone (Mr. Lamar had a lot of help), it takes a degree of leadership to get it done. (3) Lamar can bring that "can do" spirit to the CRs in Virginia. I disagree with the assessment over at SST that the CRs are a useless and meaningless organization. To the contrary, this is where the future leaders of the GOP are. When they graduate, it is they - and no one else - that will grease the wheels of the Republican machine. As a local chairman, I can't tell you how many times the CRs have bailed us out of tight spots, dropped literature, made phone calls, or done a number of things for our local and state candidates in the area. I'm sure SST's Mr. Coleman is upset with the loss, and that's to be expected. I can only ask that he work just as hard into turning the CRs into what he wants it to be. I think Andrew would welcome the support.
