British Inventor Unveils 8000 MPG Car - May 13, 2006
Check this out:"A British inventor unveils the world's most fuel-efficient vehicle, a three-wheel ?TeamGreen? car capable of doing 8,000 miles to the gallon.
The 45-year-old inventor, Andy Green, from the University of Bath, built his budget eco-motor for just ?2,000, and will be the sole British contender for the title of the world's most fuel-economic car in a global competition being held later this month. Of course, no report on how much power it gets, whether it could be adaptable to larger vehicles, etc.
If it can ever be adapted to a mid-size sedan or mini-van...

But in the real world there is a certain amount of energy needed to overcome the friction of tires on pavement, and the inefficiencies of converting gasoline into energy (heat losses).
I'll say this. If gasoline is the only energy source on the "vehicle", then you should be able to replace the gasoline with solar cells -- the energy collected from even a small solar array, over the time it takes to move 8000 miles, far exceeds the energy contained in a gallon of gasoline.
I'm guessing he actually DOES have solar panels, or has a mechanism to integrate human power or some other source of energy.
I have an electric battery assist on my bicycle, with a battery which contains more energy than what is found in a gallon of gas. Even with my peddling, the battery charge rarely lasts more than about 20 miles.
