Monday, May 15, 2006j's notes: Reading the Tea LeavesJason Kenney has a great post on the impact of endorsements for Webb and Miller. Great quote embedded from Margaret Edds of the Virginia Pilot: In a low-turnout primary, which most are, Miller enjoys one other advantage. As noted by Wise County Circuit Court Clerk Jack Kennedy, a stalwart of Democratic politics in the southwest: "Most of the people who’ve endorsed him can vote in that primary."Most of the legislators are from Northern Virginia as well, and unfortunately for Webb, Harry Reid doesn't exactly have a voting machine in Virginia. No matter who wins, if those supporting Webb are true to their word, it looks as if a divided Democratic Party will be approaching Senator Allen in November 2006. If Webb wins, he runs knowing a number of influential Democratic state office holders are lukewarm at best about having a former Republican at the helm. Still, the tea leaves are reading Miller. We'll see.

Some support for Miller is lukewarm or motivated by personal friendship...
There is no split in the Virginia Democratic party...

Talk of actively working AGAINST Miller. They're asking to lose...
besides, if Miller wins, who cares what anyone does? They can sacrifice virgins for all I care, it won't help Miller against Allen.
You're probably right that Miller will be in trouble if he gets the nomination. The Dem activist community is firmly behind Webb. I think Miller will have a hard time putting together a grassroots campaign.
With Webb - I'm really serious - these legislators are lukewarm for Miller. Some are friends with him...but they have no grudge against Webb...
Webbsters are going to have serious problems when Miller finally wins this (and I'm now convinced that the shrillness of the Webbsters confirms what the polls are saying). Will they support a guy they have utterly decimated online?
A divisive primary is great news for us Republicans. Keep up the great work, fellas!
