Hypocrisy

This gentleman knows it well:
'To affirm that Islam invites people to spread religion with the sword does not correspond to the truth. Islam forbids violence,' said the top Lebanese Sunni jurist Mohammed Rashid Qabani .
Tell that to Hezbollah.

UPDATE: Here's the same Mohammed Rashid Qabbani talking about jihad in non-violent terms:
Plans by Israel's government to allow Jews to pray at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem "will, if put into effect, practically trigger a holy Islamic war jihad itself until the mosque and the city are liberated from Jewish occupation," Grand Mufti Mohammed Rashid Qabbani said Thursday. He added in a statement that claims by Jews that their ancient temple existed where the mosque is "are unfounded."
Precisely the problem...

For someone who strongly supports the current Catholic regime to decry "Hypocrisy" is hypocrisy.

Hmm ...

First this statement:

"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached."

and then this report:

"Two churches in the West Bank were hit by firebombs Saturday, and a group claiming responsibility said it was protesting Benedict's words."

Aren't they just proving those words to be 100% accurate?

James,
I'm still waiting for you to explain how one can stand against the basic tenets of the Catholic faith and still be Catholic.

You like to lob shots, but obviously your scholarship is too shoddy to be able to stand up to a real discussion.

Um, one problem Shaun.

The cleric you sited is Lebanese Sunni. Hezbollah is Shiite; they would pay no attention to that guy.

The problem is not Islam per se, it's the Wahabbist (al Qaeda) and Khomeinist (Iran/Hezbollah) perversions thereof (and the pan-Arab Ba'athism).

Oops! Didn't read the thing fully enough. That cleric is part of the problem.

Still, let's be careful not to use too broad a brush. I know too many non-violent Muslims (Uighurs) to cast a pox on the entire faith.

D.J. --

The name "Allah" is a derivative of the name of the Pagan Moon God, "Al-ilah", who was also called Ilumquh, Sin, and Hubul. Hubul is also the name of the pagan god of war. When Muhammad tried to convert the Christians in the MIddle East, they threw him out as a heretic. So, he turned his attention to the pagans, using their names and symbols (the crescent moon) to make converts. He then LEAD bloody conquests into the various regions of the Middle East, converting people by sword-point (invoking the pagan moon/war god the entire time).

Do you know why the fez (that funny little red cap worn by muslims in certain parts of the muslim world) is red? When the muslims slaughtered every last christian man, woman, and child in Fez Morocco, they dipped their hats in the rivers of blood, dying them red. They have kept them red ever since, as a comemmoration of their destiny to wipe Christianity off the face of the earth.

It wasn't until much later that the various sects of Islam arose (mostly out of disputes as to who should succeed Muhammad). In fact, the more peaceful sects came from peaceful co-habitation with Christians in Spain, shortly before the reconquista.

In short, the very foundation of Islam is based entirely on war and bloodshed. Pope Benedict's comments were dead on and we would be fools to believe otherwise.

Mike: Good history. Islam spread by the sword. The Crusades were a counter-attack.
