Friday, September 08, 2006I Love This Pope!Pope Benedict XVI on Canada's so-called Catholic politicians: Pope Benedict hit out Friday at Canada for allowing same sex marriage and abortion, saying they result from Catholic politicians ignoring the values of their religion. That's some serious heat! I sincerely hope Pope Benedict XVI visits the specific role of Catholics in the public square in an encyclical. So many seem to be so confused, and in the name of the Second Vatican Council have done things entirely contrary to it's spirit. Is this a call to legislate one's faith? Of course not. But it is a call to make that voice heard in defense of family and the defenseless -- most notably when it comes to abortion and euthanasia.

We can blame promiscious behavior by all people for the spread of AIDS....
Duh.
I thought you were a christian, James.
We are to love all people....not just the ones you agree with...
oh...you're a liberal christian...that explains it....
A Fanta??? How the hell come you haven't bought me a Fanta? :)
Guess that can be First Prize for the Irish Road Bowling Festival...
Since you're posting in here (and have failed to respond to just about anything I've addressed to you) I thought I'd revisit the racism discussion for just a moment.
In that discussion, you blasted Republicans for being racists and the primary obstacles to civil rights. I responded with Margaret Sanger's racist position, but you never really said anything in response ... so, just to set the record straight, I thought I'd post an article which pretty well outlines just what kind of a monster Margaret Sanger (and by extension, Planned Parenthood) really was (is).
Who was Margaret Sanger?
A few weeks ago I likened Shayna Englin to Hitler and Sanger...
James didn't have anything then...and he won't have anything now....
I wrote about the new pope upon his election, in an article that appeared both on my blog and in the Washington Times, under the title "Pope Benedict XVI and His Namesake Predecessors." It was an attempt to discern what his papacy might be like based upon his choice of a pontifical name. No surprises so far, as far as I'm concerned, though apparently Richard John Neuhaus and the First Things editorial board are concerned that Benedict has gone soft.
When you're dealing with an organization that sees time in centuries and not weeks, B16 is moving quite rapidly (though not in the direction many would assume he would).
Ratzinger helped write many of the liberalizing tenets of the Second Vatican Council as it relates to the Church's relationship with the state -- I don't understand why FT is in such a state of shock.
No, Joseph Ratzinger was never a Nazi. As a very young boy growing up in Nazi Germany he was required to join a "Hitler Youth" organization. As was every other young person in Germany at the time. Because membership was compulsory and because of his youth, we cannot infer that Ratzinger's membership in this organization implied any endorsement or agreement with Nazi policies. If so then every German youth who was compelled to join would be guilty of such dispicable behavior. Would you broadbrush all German youths as Nazi because they were compelled to join these organizations?
IsisDC (I love your name....my cat is named Dr. Isis), I know that you have vigorous disagreements with the Pope because of his conservative stance on many issues. I, myself, do not agree with the Pope on some issues. If I may, can I encourage you to refrain from rhetorically accusing the Pope of being a Nazi? Instead, let's have a substantive debate on the issues where we disagree. Who knows? You might change a mind or two. Strange things have been known to happen on the road to Damascus.
