Today is the day Catholics honor the Immaculate Conception of Mary, Mother of God. It has a fascinating history, especially given the old 13th century rivalries between the Franciscans of Duns Scotus and the Dominicans following St. Thomas Aquinas.

The Immaculate Conception is the glowing example of why Thomism has been far over-exaggerated in import. Apropos to what St. Francis Xavier said of those in the universities who argue philosophy while millions of pagans are starving for evangelization.
