Sun Versus Wind: SPAM in SWACistan?

I wonder what Blog Net News' influence rankings would have to say about this?

Short version: Linking over and over again to a specific blog posts is a quick way to up your Google rating. It's called "Google bombing" and though the tactic is quite old, it's relevancy is in decline as Google continues to refine it's methodology.

Dems used it quite effectively in 2006. Is it any surprise that the handful of SWAC bloggers learned the ropes?

UPDATE: Yankee Phil hits back on the critique that SWAC bloggers might be "splogs":
It is perfectly clear that Swacgirl is not an "artificially created" web site. It is a site dedicated to the things in life that Swacgirl enjoys. She has lots of political stuff, but she has beautiful pictures of Augusta County. She has photo displays of the many events she attends. There is not one drop of "artificial" there.
Fair point.

Nice (spam) video, Yankee (spam) Phil!

Fair point except that spam detecting programs probably don't have any way to know if a person is real or not. It would just analyze the posting and linking habits not pay her a personal visit.

Also fair. But it doesn't quite get rid of the fact that RK and a number of lefty blogs have been doing this (manipulating the Google algorithm) for years.

...or BNN rankings, for that matter.

True enough I suppose. But I also don't see the lefties going around bragging about their rankings... or complaining about being flagged as spam. ;)

I think it's a report issue. Obama bloggers have used it recently to hit Clinton supporters:

Fully expect conservative blogs to be hit hard by it in upcoming months. I bet you're going to see Dems in the know moving to WordPress or elsewhere to cover their asses.

Jason, it could very well be a reporting issue. SWACgirl did make a case for that on her blog (very similar to your post). However, considering her posting and linking habits I do see how she could be mistaken for a spam blog without anyone reporting her.

It could be a reporting issue or it could be a circle linking issue. Neither can be ruled out.

The circle linking could certainly be a problem, but lately I don't think she's been doing it that extensively and certainly not more so than any other blog. If Google were paying that much attention to it, most blogs would be shut down for linking to the same blogs over and over.
