I'm thinking that he's talking about the NSA, the CIA and the State Department, for example. You know, non-military programs that contribute to our national security.

Really, Harry? Somehow, the impression I get - "just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded" as our military... A CIVILIAN national security force...

As a typical citizen, Harry, this does NOT strike me as an existing entity, he's talking about something "new."

Of course, I mean "new" for America: Germany had it's own S.S. - and any proper American Patriot would fight to the death to prevent that sort of thing...

Those who saw the rest of that speech a few months ago know that the context was related to re-focusing funding on domestic security, rather than pissing away a trillion on "Dubya's most exlent adventure" also known as Iraq.

Taken out of context, the excerpt does sound ominous, like Obama was saying he wants to create a new secret police, but the context of the speech does not support this paranoid interpretation.

If you know the Democrats, you know that what they are saying is that they are going after the Puzzle Palace and will find some ways to spend monies cut from the Pentagon to spend on their pet programs, apparently to include some funds spent under the auspices of domestic security. Of course in Democrat land this means the money will be passed along in the form of patronage to inner city political moguls.

Will this domestic political corruption be better than maiming and killing thousands of people and pissing away a trillion dollars on Iraq?

Yes.
